Introduction
Use account aliases to issue additional account identifiers under a Volt Account for automatic reconciliation.
Prerequisites
Aliases can only be issued under a Volt Account — the foundational account type issued to your company — held by a Business account holder. They are registered in your company name, not in the name of your end customer.
Aliases are for reconciliation only. Funds sent to an alias are credited to its parent Volt Account. You cannot hold a separate balance on, or pay out from, an alias itself.
Lifecycle
An alias moves through a small, predictable set of states:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | The alias is fully functional and can receive incoming payments. New aliases start in this state. |
| Deactivated | The alias is temporarily disabled and cannot accept payments. It can be reactivated. |
| Closed | The alias is permanently closed. This is terminal — a closed alias cannot be reopened or used again, and it is no longer included in billing. |
How aliases are provisioned
Alias ordering is asynchronous. When you place an order you receive an order identifier immediately. The individual aliases become available once the order completes. You can track progress by polling the order or by listening for a webhook notification.
See for the full flow.
Reconciling credits
Once an alias is credited, the funds settle into the parent Volt Account and you receive an incoming payment notification. Its beneficiary identifies both the parent account (beneficiary.accountId) and the alias the funds arrived on (beneficiary.alias.id). For notification setup, see .
